Nunatukavut

Do you know someone who has demonstrated outstanding support in NunatuKavut communities and given unselfishly of their time and energy to make a difference? If so, consider nominating them for the 2026 Nakummesuak Award!

“Nakummesuak” means “thank you very much” or “a big acknowledgement.” Created by the NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC), the Nakummesuak Award is presented annually to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding support for NCC and our communities and have given unselfishly of their time and energy to make a difference. This award was first presented at the 2013 Annual General Assembly.

As 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of NCC as a governing body, please consider nominating individuals who have contributed to NCC’s growth and progress over the last four decades.

Award Criteria

A candidate:

• must be nominated by an NCC member and would normally be an NCC member. On an exceptional basis, NCC recognizes that there are those outside its membership who have made significant contributions and will accept such nominations;
• must not be a NCC staff member or sit on NCC’s Governing Council, unless there are extraordinary circumstances that would constitute a nomination;
• must be nominated by an individual who is not an immediate family member (ex. spouse, child, brother, sister, parent or grandparent);
• must be nominated for contributions that the candidate does not receive monetary renumeration for;
• must not have previously received a Nakummesuak Award;
• can receive a Nakummesuak Award posthumously

Deadline for nominations is Friday, February 13, 2026 at 4:30 pm AST.

The award will be presented at NCC’s 2026 Annual General Assembly.
