The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is seeking a Finance Assistant to join our team at our main office location in Goose-Bay for a 12-week term. To be eligible, applicants must have been enrolled in school within the past year and be returning to their studies in the fall. Preference will be given to post-secondary students.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and supporting the Finance Department in delivering efficient and accountable financial services.

Roles and Responsibilities for Financial Assistant
- Assist with the Processing of vendor invoices, employee expense claims, and payments in alignment with NCC’s financial policies.
- Support accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate record-keeping.
- Assist with monthly reconciliations of bank statements and financial ledgers.
- Assist with the Maintenance of financial records in accordance with Indigenous governance and reporting standards.
- Support payroll preparation and distribution for NCC staff and community-based programs.
- Contribute to the preparation of financial reports for internal use and funding partners.
- Assist during audit processes by preparing supporting documentation and ensuring compliance with funding agreements.
- Communicate professionally with suppliers, partners, and community members regarding finance-related matters.
- Upheld the values and mission of the NunatuKavut Community Council in all financial tasks and community interactions.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, QuickBooks, or similar platforms)
- Competent in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
- Understanding of budgeting processes and financial tracking
- Familiarity with audit preparation and funding accountability
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Respectful and culturally sensitive approach when working with Indigenous communities
- Dependable, with strong time management and problem-solving abilities
- Team-oriented with a willingness to support broader organizational goals
