“It was with great sadness that I received the news of Lydia Tuglavina’s passing. Her work with NCC as an Inuttitut translator, instructor and mentor has been invaluable in guiding our journey towards the revitalization of our ancestral language. On behalf of our Governing Council and all NunatuKavut Inuit who had the opportunity to learn from Lydia, I offer deepest condolences to her family and friends.
Lydia’s commitment to keeping Inuttitut alive in Labrador was of great importance to her. Her passion for teaching and sharing knowledge was evident in all her work with NunatuKavut Inuit. She enjoyed visiting our communities and cherished the time spent with our people, particularly our youth. We will be forever grateful for the knowledge she shared with us, and her patience and encouragement. We will carry these memories and teachings forward with tremendous gratitude.
