Iron & Earth and the NunatuKavut Community Council, with the support of the Town of Cartwright and the Sandwich Bay 50+ Club Inc., are pleased to be hosting a Community Solar Skills training program in Cartwright, Newfoundland, in late August to early September, 2025.

The training is open to people: 

  • Living in Cartwright, Paradise River, Black Tickle, Port Hope Simpson, Charlottetown, Pinsent’s Arm, St. Lewis, Mary’s Harbour and Lodge Bay; 
  • 16 years old or older on the first day of the training; 
  • Have completed Grade 10 (minimum); 
  • Experience in construction and/or general labour (including farm labour), and in handling/working with tools would be helpful but not required; 
  • Able to work at height;
  • Available to complete all requirements for certification as outlined below

Participant Training Schedule:

  • Online prerequisite trainings are to be completed before August 21st (at no cost to you)
  • August 25th and 26th Fall Arrest Training In-Person (cost covered and safety gear provided) 
  • August 27, 28, 29, and September 2- In class sessions 8:30am – 4:30pm 
  • September 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and possibly 10th – Hands on sessions (half days only)

NOTE: Stipends will be offered to participants during the Community Solar Skills training program and a completion bonus will be available for those who fully and successfully complete the entire training program.
