The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is accepting applications for a Language Program Lead. Working under the direction of NCC’s Research, Education and Culture department, this position will coordinate, develop and lead language programming and planning across NunatuKavut. The Language Program Lead will strategically work to engage communities and schools and promote Inuttitut through various avenues, resource development and language revitalization planning. This position is full-time, to March 31, 2028.

NunatuKavut means “our ancient land” and refers to the territory of Inuit who reside primarily in south and central Labrador. NCC is a rights-based governing body that represents NunatuKavut Inuit. Roles and Responsibilities for Language Program Lead

  • Organize, prepare and guide the coordination of Inuttitut training sessions for various age groups, delivered virtually and in-person across NunatuKavut.
  • Support and co-lead strategic language planning efforts.
  • Finalize, review, and implement Inuttitut language lessons developed in collaboration with educational consultants.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with instructors, communities, and partners to advance language revitalization efforts.
  • Lead the planning of and help host community events and activities to promote language use and cultural engagement.
  •  Participate in the development and coordination of language research.
  • Collaborate on the production and archiving of audio recordings for language resources.
  • Maintain and update the translation database, ensuring timely completion of translation requests.
  • Identify funding proposal opportunities and co-lead proposal writing.
  • Monitor and report on program budgets, ensuring accountability and alignment with funding requirements.
  • Track progress of tasks, deliverables, and language initiatives, preparing monthly status updates for internal review.
  • Other related duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge and awareness of Inuit culture, history & ways of life.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to lead the implementation of multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor, report on, and manage program budgets effectively.
  • Strong experience in program or project coordination, including timelines, deliverables, and reporting.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Effective analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have competence with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours.
  • Must be able to travel with own method of transportation.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in social sciences, community development or other relevant field of study OR demonstrable equivalent expertise gained through education, training, life, and work experience.
  • Experience in supporting funding applications, detailed reporting requirements, and/or budget management.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating teams or committees, including work planning and timelines.

Salary Range: $67,500-82,000 based on qualifications
