The Office of Finance and Administration is looking for a Finance Officer II. This is as a full-time indeterminate position. This position will provide a wide variety of accounting tasks, support, and assistance to the office in accordance and compliance with all legislation and regulations, and within the parameters of policies of NunatuKavut Community Council. He/she will perform accurate data entries, record keeping, filing systems and administrative tasks including generating purchase orders, paying invoices, etc.
Roles and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the Office of Finance and Administration by completing the following accounting duties:
- Provide efficient and effective data entry and recordkeeping relating to the accounting system following the approved practices and guidelines.
- Set up and maintain up-to-date records and files.
- Verify and process requisitions, prepare and monitor purchase orders matching vendor invoices to approved purchase orders.
- Prepare, verify, and process invoices and payment documents.
- Issue payment remittances to vendors.
- Reconcile corporate credit cards and make disbursements according to guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with internal departments and external vendors to meet organizational needs.
- Review and verify travel claims and reconcile travel advances with travel claims.
- Assist in the processing of financial forms.
- Perform month-end vendor statement reconciliation and other month-end tasks as required.
- Follow controls to comply with security, privacy, and confidentiality requirements.
- As required, assist with contract agreements financial reporting.
- Other accounting activities as required.
Skills and Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following competencies:
- Experience in Sage 50.
- Solid experience with financial processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable and maintaining general ledgers.
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information.
- Excellent interpersonal, team building, analytical, time management and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Superior financial calculation, understanding, knowledge, and skills.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Proficiency in the use of computer programs i.e., MS Word, excel spreadsheets, email, etc.
- Ability to be flexibility and to work independently and take the initiative where necessary.
- The ability to work under pressure (i.e. meet deadlines, achieve goals with speed and accuracy while paying close attention to details).
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and monitor compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Strong work ethic and high level of integrity including the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Completion of post-secondary in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting Principles
- Two to three years of accounting experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience MAY be considered.
Preference may be given to qualified members of NunatuKavut Community Council.
Salary: $54K-64K Dependent on qualifications.
