The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is seeking a motivated and community-focused applicant for a Community Support Coordinator for the Port Hope Simpson area.
NunatuKavut means “our ancient land” and refers to the territory of Inuit who reside primarily in south and central Labrador. NCC is a rights-based governing body that represents NunatuKavut Inuit. We are a dynamic, fast paced, and growing team that strives to meet the priorities, interests and needs of our people. Roles and Responsibilities
- Delivery of goods and services for seniors and other vulnerable people, pickup and delivery of grocery items, supplies to and from the clinic, pharmacy, mail, assisting with property clean up, health and sanitary assistance, etc.
- Delivery of essential services such as fuel, water, and firewood.
- Promote traditional hunting and fishing.
- May assist with basic snow shoveling, such as doorways and walkways.
- Promote safe and healthy communities.
- Assist with social activities for seniors and other vulnerable people in the community.
- Gather information and engage in generational knowledge transfer activities.
- Other duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills or competencies:
- Strong understanding of the community and its needs.
- Familiarity with the local area and its traditional practices.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Must be available to travel as needed (use of personal vehicle required).
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours.
Salary: $56-$74k (depending on qualifications)
Preference will be given to qualified members of NunatuKavut Community Council.
Working Conditions
- Must be available to travel as needed; a milage allowance or travel reimbursement will be provided.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate community schedules.
- The successful applicant will be required to complete and submit criminal records and vulnerable sector check.
