The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is seeking Expressions of Interest for a one-year Youth Energy Internship with the Department of Energy and Environment and Natural Resources. 

Who Can Apply

This opportunity is open to Indigenous youth (First Nation, Inuit, or Métis) aged 18–30 who live in one of the following diesel-dependent communities:
Cartwright, Paradise River, Black Tickle, Port Hope Simpson, Pinsent’s Arm, Charlottetown, Norman Bay, St. Lewis, Mary’s Harbour, and Lodge Bay.

About the Internship

This paid internship provides hands-on experience in clean energy projects within NunatuKavut communities. Interns will gain practical skills, explore career pathways, and build confidence to contribute to the clean energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support planning and delivery of energy programs and initiatives 
  • Assist with project coordination, reporting, and presentations 
  • Participate in community engagement sessions and meetings 
  • Travel to project sites, including remote locations 
  • Work collaboratively across NCC departments 
  • Stay informed on clean energy developments and technologies 

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle 
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Familiarity with your community and local practices 
  • Access to a computer for virtual meetings 

Details

  • Duration: 1 year 
  • Salary: $23-25/hour (based on qualifications) 
  • Preference: Given to qualified NunatuKavut members
