Are you interested in gaining work experience in the field of community health and wellness this summer? If so, we have an amazing opportunity for you! 

NCC is looking for a summer intern in the Department of Health and Community Services to work as a Community Health and Wellness Coordinator.  This position will help design, implement, and administer community wellness initiatives that work to ensure NunatuKavut Inuit have greater access to effective, culturally relevant health and wellness.

This position may work anywhere in NunatuKavut and is available from mid May to the end of August or early September.

NunatuKavut means “our ancient land” and refers to the territory of Inuit who belong to south and central Labrador. NCC is a rights-based governing body that represents NunatuKavut Inuit. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the coordination, planning and facilitation of programs and activities that align with NunatuKavut’s health and wellness plans (addressing all areas of wellness including physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and cultural).
  • Develop a network of health and wellness programs and services within the territory.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of cultural-based resources and materials that focus on NunatuKavut Inuit culture and traditions.
  • Assist in community engagement activities identifying needs, barriers and gaps in health and wellness within the territory and support communities in implementing strategies to address those gaps.
  • Assist in hosting events, activities, workshops, and presentations.
  • Assist in researching funding opportunities and developing funding proposals.
  • Provide organizational support on holistic health and wellness files.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to NCC’s employee values and policies.

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidates should possess the following skills or competencies:

  • Knowledge of, and experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, and government.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, particularly in writing reports.
  • Ability to conduct research.
  • Experience in helping organize and host events, including workshops, presentations, community events, information sessions for groups.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate and dependable.
  • Good interpersonal and team working skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational and computer application skills.
  • Experience in researching and developing funding proposals an asset. 
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Education Requirements

Must be enrolled in post-secondary education in relevant field. 

Salary

$ 22.50 per hour
