The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is seeking a dedicated Human Resources (HR) Generalist to join our team. Reporting to the Director of HR, the ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting HR functions and growing the capacity of the HR department to ensure a smooth operation of various HR processes. The successful incumbent will be an effective communicator, a trusted advisor and an innovative and creative leader.

NunatuKavut means “our ancient land” and refers to the territory of Inuit who reside primarily in south and central Labrador. NCC is a rights-based governing body that represents NunatuKavut Inuit. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Build strong working relationships across the organization, providing support on HR matters in a respectful, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Lead the HR department in developing, maintaining and reporting on NCC’s occupational health and safety programs and policies including:
    • Providing support to OH&S committee and the HR department
    • Coordinating and conducting safety related training
    • Analyzing and maintaining incident report tracking
    • Assisting with relevant policies and procedures and other documentation.
  • Assist in full-cycle recruitment process including:
    • Reviewing departmental staffing requests with department heads
    • Developing and posting job ads using a variety methods and strategies
    • Overseeing drafting employment agreements of various types including contract employment
    • Coordinating and attending career fairs, open houses and other recruitment related events
  • Assist with capacity building though learning and development including:
    • Assisting directors, managers and supervisors in the identification of training needs
    • Leading the development and coordination of relevant learning and development opportunities
    • Liaising with Employment and Skills Development department in seeking out external funding opportunities
  • Support employee relations, including policy-interpretation and application, performance management and conflict management and resolution.
  • Engage as a trusted adviser and subject matter expert to coach employees and managers on sensitive work-related issues.
  • Assist with HR policies, programs, and procedures, working closely with managers and supervisors to ensure understanding of the policies throughout the organization.
  • Assist in keeping current on legislative changes in employment law.
  • Support performance management and facilitate periodic performance reviews and evaluations.
  • In collaboration with Director of HR and other stakeholders, implement annual HR plans.
  • Support the development and rollout of projects and programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity through all courses of actions.

Qualifications

  • A working knowledge of employment law, labour relations, and health and safety legislation
  • A solid understanding of human resource values, ethics, and principles
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, coaching and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Proven desire to work effectively and build trust throughout the organization.
  • Ability to set priorities and drives deliverables.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing Health & Safety programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and write employment contracts.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently as well as member of the team.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify problems proactively, evaluate situations and make decisions.

Education Requirements

Post-secondary education in human resources management, business management or a related field and three to five years of experience working in an HR role; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Having or working towards a CHRP designation would be an asset.

Salary

$65,000-$73,000 per annum
