We invite you to join us on August 21, 2024, in Mary’s Harbour, NunatuKavut, to celebrate the British-Inuit Treaty of 1765. We have planned a day filled with exciting activities for people of all ages to enjoy. Please note that all activities are held at the Raymond C. Rumbolt Memorial Recreation Centre, unless otherwise noted.

Schedule of Events

8:00 am – Meet & Greet

  • Coffee, tea, and continental breakfast
  • Information and sign-ups for kayaking, walking tour and cod plant tours

8:00 am to 11:30 am – Boat Ride to Cape St. Charles

  • Limited space – sign up by 3:30 pm on August 20, 2024, by emailing dpjohnson@nunatukavut.ca
  • Departs from Lodge Bay Wharf at 8:15 am
  • Bring your own PFD
  • Brunch on the land

9:00 am to 10:30 am – Kayaking at Muddy Cove

  • Bring your own PFD
  • Some kayaks and PFDs provided for first-time paddlers along with a brief tutorial

9:30 am to 12:00 noon – Cod Plant Tours

  • Maximum of 10 people per tour

10:30 am to 12:00 noon – Walking Tour

  • Guided walk of Doctor’s Cottage, Gin Cove, and White Water Falls

12:00 noon – Community Hall Lunch

  • Soup, sandwiches, and desserts
  • BBQ hotdogs
  • Prize draws

1:00 pm – Opening of Treaty Celebrations

  • Opening remarks from President Todd Russell
  • Lighting of the Kullik
  • Drumming

1:00 pm to 4:00 pm – Cultural Activities

  • Inuttitut activities
  • Learn to drum
  • Crafting
  • Information tent for NunatuKavut departments, Nunacor, and RCMP

1:30 pm – Announcement

  • Announcement from the Government of Canada and Nunacor

2:00 pm – Children’s Activity Tent

  • NunatuKavut Business Centre and Circle of Friends Family Resource Centre partner to lead children’s crafts

3:00 pm – How to Clean a Cod Fish

  • Demonstration at the Government Wharf

6:00 pm – Flag Raising

  • Flag raising in collaboration with Mary’s Harbour Town Council at the Recreation Centre

6:30 pm – Community Supper

  • Drumming and grace
  • Cold plate supper
  • Prize draws
  • Live music by Randy Hopkins and Bruce Rumbolt
  • Closing and BIG door prize draw
