Nunatukavut

Across NunatuKavut, energy security/insecurity greatly impacts the quality of life for NunatuKavut Inuit. Energy efficiency initiatives that leave sustainable impacts and support energy education and awareness within NunatuKavut are a key focus for NCC.

Round 1 of NCC’s Community Energy Micro-Grant Program in 2023 was such a success that our growing Energy team sought and obtained more funding from Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Indigenous Off-Diesel Initiative (IODI) to provide another round of funds!

In 2023, four community organizations availed of funds to improve energy efficiency in their day-to-day operations with benefits to community members. We are now launching Round 2 with funding for up to 12 projects aimed at encouraging community leaders to think of clean energy options for the needs and priorities of their communities!

All projects or initiatives must:

  • Demonstrate how it targets the needs of NunatuKavut Inuit and communities.
  • Enhance education in your community around cleaner energy options and use.
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by conserving energy through higher efficient building supplies and building upgrades.
  • Address a sustainability need (economic, environmental, or societal) which may help build the foundation necessary to pursue future sustainable energy initiatives.
