Firewood Heat Security Program now accepting applications from members 63+

The Firewood Heat Security Program, relaunched in April 2021 by the NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, has now been amended for increased eligibility. This program will now provide one cord of firewood per household for NunatuKavut seniors aged 63+ and vulnerable. There are limited cords of firewood available and it will be distributed on a first come-first serve basis.

You must be living in:

  • Communities in Upper Lake Melville
  • Communities in the Straits
  • Cartwright
  • Paradise River
  • Charlottetown
  • Norman Bay
  • Pinsent’s Arm
  • Port Hope Simpson
  • St. Lewis
  • Mary’s Harbour
  • Lodge Bay

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include NunatuKavut members who:

  • Are age 63 or older;
  • Have a disability; or
  • Receive Income Support (Social Assistance); and
  • Applicants who have not accessed the COVID-19 heat security voucher (for electricity or heating fuel) will be given priority.
