LABRADOR-RAISED TURKEYS NEW ADDITION TO COMMUNITY FREEZERS
NCC has a limited number of Labrador-raised turkeys in our community freezers. They are available to full members over 65 and vulnerable households. They will be available on a first come, first served basis.
If you are interested in receiving a turkey, please call 709-960-1043 or email rnotley@nunatukavut.ca by noon on Thursday, October 5. Include your name, phone number and community when leaving a message.
Members who receive a turkey will be asked to complete a short questionnaire to determine if this is something to continue in future years.
About the Turkeys
The turkeys are raised by Hobby Farmer, Scott Sooley and his family in the Labrador Straits. They are locally grown and chemical free! Scott’s instructions for cooking are, “low and slow. If you generally cook a turkey at 350 degrees for 4 hours, cook these at 300 for 5 hours”.
NCC is pleased to offer this healthy source of protein to our members! The goal of the food security office to grow, raise, harvest and hunt locally, to ensure high quality, nutritious food that do not have to travel thousands of miles to get to our tables.
