Media statement: NunatuKavut Community Council appalled by news about potential storage of nuclear waste in Labrador

HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR, April 1, 2021 – NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) President Todd Russell today issued the following statement to respond to recent media coverage about a proposed nuclear waste facility in Labrador:

“I was frankly appalled to read media coverage this morning about a ‘secretive’ project that has plans to store nuclear waste in Labrador. NCC is foremost concerned about the health, well-being and rights of NunatuKavut Inuit. We know nothing about this specific project and we will be following up with both the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to seek more information.”
