Message of Condolence on Passing of Jim Lyall

HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR, May 13, 2022 – NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) President Todd Russell today issued the following message of condolence on the passing of Jim Lyall, the first elected President of Nunatsiavut Government:

“I met with Jim a few times when I was the Member of Parliament for Labrador. He was blunt, straightforward and cared deeply for his people and communities. Jim represented his people with integrity and saw the power of working together to reach common goals. Jim was held in high esteem by those within Nunatsiavut and beyond. He will sincerely be missed.

On behalf of myself, our Governing Council and all NunatuKavut Inuit, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his many family and friends and all those he served and worked with. We also express our profound condolences on the passing of his dear wife Jean, who passed away just a few hours before Jim. Our prayers go out to everyone who knew them both.”
