Message of Condolence on Passing of Muriel Andersen
HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR, September 21, 2022 – NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) President Todd Russell today issued the following message of condolence on the passing of Muriel Andersen, a well-known and respected Elder throughout Nunatsiavut and throughout Labrador:
“I was very saddened to hear about the passing of Ms. Andersen (whom I, like so many, endearingly called Aunt Muriel). I knew her personally and had the privilege and honour of sitting with her in her beautiful home of Makkovik, where she talked about what was important to her, of her family and her community. Aunt Muriel lived an extraordinary life and one in which she felt truly blessed. She exuded those profoundly important qualities of an Elder and knew the strength of her culture. She had a kind and gentle spirit and showed such generosity and care for those around her. Aunt Muriel was a much loved and cherished person whose time on earth was truly an example of a life well lived. She will be dearly missed.
On behalf of myself, our Governing Council and all NunatuKavut Inuit, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Aunt Muriel. May your happy memories of a wonderful women and how she touched the lives of those around her in such a positive and lasting way provide you comfort during this time.”
