Message of condolence on the passing of William Barbour

HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR, November 19, 2020 – NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) President Todd Russell today issued the following message of condolence on the passing of William Barbour, former President of the Labrador Inuit Association:

“I served as President of what is now the NunatuKavut Community Council when William Barbour was President of the Labrador Inuit Association. He was a staunch advocate for Indigenous rights and Inuit rights, specifically. I attended numerous meetings, been part of many panels and other forums with him. William was astute, skilled and steeped in his own culture. He could also navigate and move forward in the ways of the western world. He represented his people with integrity and treated all of Labrador’s Indigenous groups with respect and understanding. Former President Barbour was held in high esteem by those within Nunatsiavut and beyond. He will be dearly missed.

On behalf of myself, our Governing Council and all NunatuKavut Inuit, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his many family and friends and all those he served and worked with. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.”
