The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) today announced the resignation of Nina Pye from the position of Governing Councillor for Area 2 – Battle Harbour. Ms. Pye resigned for personal reasons.
Ms. Pye was elected to the Governing Council in 2016. This was her second time serving on the Council. In her resignation letter, she stated “I have learned so much…with regard to making intelligent informed decisions and treating each other with respect while doing so….and I am so proud of the direction that President Russell has led us in…right now my family needs me and I must step aside.”
In response, President Russell said “I was saddened to receive a letter of resignation from Nina. She has contributed to the advancement of the NunatuKavut Community Council. Her perspective as a strong Inuk woman will especially be missed. I know that she will continue to make a contribution toward the betterment of our people and communities.”
This position will remain vacant until the upcoming general election, which was recently postponed to take place on November 2, 2020.
