NUNATUKAVUT COMMMUNITY COUNCIL Offers Condolences on the Passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR, September 9, 2022 – NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) President Todd Russell today issued the following statement on the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II:

“On behalf of the NunatuKavut Community Council, I extend condolences to King Charles III and members of the Royal Family. As President, I know I speak on behalf of all NunatuKavut Inuit when I say that we are saddened to have learned of Her Majesty’s passing.  There is a special relationship between the Indigenous peoples of Canada and the Crown. So many of our people understand deeply this connection and its importance.

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has been a beacon of strength for Great Britain, for Canada and the world. For over 70 years, she served her country and her people, and she did so through both jubilant times and indeed through the darkest days. All the while she did so with grace and dignity. It is my strong belief that this will be her enduring legacy.

To King Charles and the Royal Family we know that you have lost a mother, a grandmother a cherished and beloved  member of your family, an extraordinary person.  We share in your grief and know that as Inuit in our places so far away we are near. We  hold you in our thoughts and prayers and may the blessing of our Creator be with you all.”
