NunatuKavut Community Council congratulates Premier Furey; looking forward to building on relationship together

HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR, August 19, 2020 – NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) President Todd Russell today issued the following statement after the swearing-in of new Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey:

“On behalf of NunatuKavut Community Council, I offer our sincere congratulations to Mr. Furey on officially becoming the 14th Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador today. I commend him on his tremendous success and for demonstrating great strength and perseverance during a long and extraordinary campaign. These qualities and his deep commitment to the people of the Province will serve him well in the days ahead.

I have had an opportunity to meet and talk with Premier Furey over the past few weeks. I shared some of the story of NunatuKavut Inuit and the aspirations of our people. We also discussed the work that NCC and the provincial government are doing and will continue to do to strengthen our relationship and move forward together. Premier Furey’s commitment to making Indigenous reconciliation a priority with our people and all Indigenous peoples in the province is a commitment we join him in making happen.

Our work together will have a tremendous impact on advancing the health and wellbeing of our people and communities.”
