Statement: NunatuKavut Community Council congratulates Premier-designate Furey and his government on majority election win
HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR, March 27, 2021 – NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) President Todd Russell today issued the statement below following the announcement of the Newfoundland and Labrador election results:
“On behalf of NunatuKavut Community Council, I offer our sincere congratulations to Premier-designate Andrew Furey and his team on their majority win in this latest provincial election.
I have had an opportunity to meet and talk with Premier-designate Furey many times since he was elected last August and during this campaign. From our very first meeting, he committed to making Indigenous reconciliation a priority with NunatuKavut Inuit and all Indigenous peoples in the province. I look forward to working with him and his government over the next four years to put this important priority into action. A strong provincial relationship will have a tangible impact on advancing the health and wellbeing of our people and communities.
It has been a long election during some very extraordinary times. We applaud all party candidates for putting their names on the ballot and for their perseverance and endurance throughout this historic campaign.”
