The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual to work as a Community Youth Coordinator under NCC’s new Youth Action Project (YAP). Under the direction of the Project Manager, the successful applicant will work with a group of local youth to form a NunatuKavut Inuit Youth Council and organize various activities that will strengthen their leadership and civic engagement. They will provide support, encouragement and mentoring to youth around governance, leadership and democratic engagement. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to professionalism and fostering relationships with youth and community. This position is funded until March 31, 2027.
NunatuKavut means “our ancient land” and refers to the territory of Inuit who reside primarily in south and central Labrador. NCC is a rights-based governing body that represents NunatuKavut Inuit. Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, professional resources and support to youth and community partners to identify meaningful volunteer opportunities.
- Work to find community connections for individuals to achieve their goals and develop networking opportunities.
- Assist youth in finding volunteer opportunities that help develop their leadership skills.
- Work with youth and community partners to plan, organize and coordinate various cultural workshops and presentations.
- Maintain required project data and prepare reports.
- Coordinate and facilitate relevant meetings/sessions between youth and stakeholders.
- Maintains relationships and works respectfully with community members and partners.
- Works with concern for the health, safety, and well-being of others. Is knowledgeable of health and safety in the workplace and community; and participates in health and safety training as required.
- Undertakes special projects or duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Post-Secondary education in a relevant field of studies ie. community studies/community development, journalism, multi-media etc. is preferred.
- Experience in planning, organizing, and coordinating programs or projects with youth is an asset.
- A solid understanding of diversity and inclusion and cultural sensitivity.
- Knowledge of NunatuKavut Inuit culture and communities including community resources and experience working with Indigenous groups is essential.
- Ability to work effectively within a team approach to community engagement.
- Ability to work independently.
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
- Solid communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Detail orientated, accurate, and dependable.
- Must be able to be depended upon to plan and organize work effectively and ensure its completion.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Must have proficient computing skills using Microsoft Office, presentations software, social media, and other relevant software.
- Experience in videography and photography would be an asset.
- Experience using iMovie and Final Cut Pro would be an asset.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.
