The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is seeking a dedicated Human Resources Generalist to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting HR functions, aiding our employees, and ensuring a positive and productive work environment. The successful incumbent must act with humility and clarity. NunatuKavut means “our ancient land” and refers to the territory of Inuit who reside primarily in south and central Labrador. NCC is a rights-based governing body that represents NunatuKavut Inuit. Roles and Responsibilities for HR Generalist

  • Build strong working relationships across the organization, providing support on HR matters in a respectful, professional, and efficient manner to all departments and divisions.
  • Lead the HR department in developing, maintaining and reporting on NCC’s occupational health and safety programs and policies.
  • Assist in full-cycle recruitment process, including:
    • Identifying staffing and recruitments needs with department heads
    • Developing and posting job ads using a variety of methods and strategies
    • Assisting in developing employment agreements of various types, including contract employment
    • Coordinating and attending career fairs, open houses and other recruitment-related events
  • Assist with capacity building through learning and development, including,
    • Assist department heads in the identification of training needs and lead the development and coordination of relevant learning and development opportunities
    • Liaise with the ESD department in seeking out external funding opportunities
  • Support labour relations, including employment law interpretation and application, policy interpretation, performance management and conflict management and resolution.
  •    Engage as a trusted adviser and subject matter expert to coach employees and managers on sensitive work-related issues.
  • Assist with legislative compliance, keeping current on changes in employment law.
  • Support performance management and facilitate periodic performance reviews and evaluations.
  • Assist in implementing annual HR plans.

Qualifications

  • A solid understanding of human resource values, ethics, and principles – Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • A solid working knowledge of employment law, labour relations, and health and safety legislation
  • A good understanding of team dynamics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to foster an environment of trust, demonstrating approachability and accountability.
  • Demonstrated negotiation, coaching and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and manage time effectively.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing Health & Safety programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and write employment contracts.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently as well as a member of the team.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify problems proactively, evaluate situations and make decisions.
  • Having or working towards a CHRP designation would be an asset.

Education Requirements

Degree or diploma in human resources management, business management or a related field and 3-5 years of experience working in an HR role; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Salary: $73,000 – $88,000 depending on experience.
