The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual to work as a Project Manager under the new NunatuKavut Youth Action Project (NYAP). NYAP encourages youth to participate in meaningful civic engagement, with the option to choose their participation in one of three groups: culture and communication; environmental protection; and youth leadership. Under the direction of the Chief Communications Officer (CCO), the successful applicant will provide overall leadership of the project and supervise three youth coordinators. This involves managing project requirements and timelines, acquiring project resources and reporting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to professionalism and fostering positive relationships with youth and community. This position is funded until March 31, 2027.

NunatuKavut means “our ancient land” and refers to the territory of Inuit who reside primarily in south and central Labrador. NCC is a rights-based governing body that represents NunatuKavut Inuit. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and guide youth coordinators in their efforts to produce deliverables for civic engagement accordingly to the project contribution agreement.
  • Manage the lifecycle of the project, ranging from strategic planning initiatives to tactical activities.
  • Manage the projects goals and objectives and plan project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Track all project costs to ensure completion within budget.
  • Produce regular reports on the progress of NYAP for the funder and the CCO.
  • Monitor the work and billing of third-party workers, such as consultants, contractors, and other specialists.
  • Participate and work with various community stakeholders.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts within project teams.
  • Manage and mitigate risk.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience with supervising and managing staff.
  • Project management skills and experience.
  • Experience working with Indigenous groups is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Ability to proofread and edit documents.
  • Superb facilitation skills to lead group sessions, meetings, and community engagement.
  • Problem-solving, communication, report writing skills and presentation skills are essential.
  • Computer literacy is essential, including a knowledge of various multimedia technologies and equipment.
  • Ability to create and edit project documents, materials, and presentations.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships internally and publicly with stakeholders, and line departments and NCC management.
  • Flexible and able to adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team, and self-starter when working independently.
  • Financial management skills are essential.
  • Able to communicate effectively across diverse groups, including technical, professional, and leadership staff.

Education

Post-secondary education in project management, community development, Indigenous studies, community/social engagement or communications is preferred. Experience in project management or combination or a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Other Requirements

  • Overtime as required.
  • Class 5 driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Will be required to travel.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Able to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
