The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is seeking five students to join our team for eight weeks. To be eligible, applicants must have been enrolled in school within the past year and be returning to their studies in the fall. Preference will be given to post-secondary students. The following positions are: Food Technician, Archival Assistant, Natural Resource Technician, Communications Services Coordinator, and Financial Assistant.

Food Technician (Port Hope Simpson)

Key tasks:

  • Help plan, prepare, and distribute food (e.g. Community Freezer Program).
  • Organize and manage food inventory (traditional/local foods).
  • Assist with processing and packaging country foods safely.
  • Support community events promoting food sovereignty.
  • Coordinate food deliveries with Environment & Natural Resources team.

Archival Assistant (Lake Melville Area)

Key tasks:

  • Digitize records and organize files (physical & digital).
  • Enter and verify metadata (attention to detail is critical).
  • Track and document archive materials.
  • Support preservation of important documents.
  • Assist with summaries and record-keeping.

Resource Technician (Lake Melville Area or Port Hope Simpson)

Key tasks:

  • Help monitor fish and habitats (science + Indigenous knowledge).
  • Assist with research and data collection.
  • Maintain field equipment.
  • Support report writing and admin tasks.
  • Work in both field and office settings.

Communications Services Coordinator (Any community in NunatuKavut or remote within Newfoundland and Labrador – may require home office set-up)

Key tasks:

  • Assist with creating high quality content for social media, newsletters, posters, etc.
  • Help maintain website and social media platforms.
  • Promote programs and services available to NCC members.
  • Help coordinate NCC-led events.
  • Collect stories, photos and videos from the community.
  • Support media monitoring.
  • Help maintain photo library.

Financial Assistant (Lake Melville Area)

Key tasks:

  • Assist with basic financial tasks such as data entry, processing invoices, and tracking expenses in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Support the preparation and organization of financial documents, reports, and records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Help maintain filing systems for financial information, both digital and physical, ensuring confidentiality is upheld.
  • Assist with reconciling transactions and identifying any discrepancies for review by senior staff.
  • Provide administrative support to the finance team, including scheduling, correspondence, and document management.
  • Support budgeting activities and help monitor program or departmental spending.
  • Communicate with internal departments to gather required financial information and documentation.

Salary: $18.15 an hour for all positions
