Nunatukavut

“Today I attended the event that Ms. Jones (Yvonne) held to announce that she will not be running as Member of Parliament for Labrador in the next federal election.

I’ve personally known Yvonne for most of my life and she is someone I am honoured to call my friend and colleague.Throughout her whole political career, she has been a fierce advocate for what is right and what is good and, in recent years, worked especially hard to bring the concerns and issues raised by the people of Labrador to Ottawa. She ensured, at all times, that Labradorians had a voice in the NL House of Assembly and the House of Commons. She made sure that Labrador was not ignored or forgotten. The commitment and dedication she displayed on a daily basis in her political roles for Labrador has been an inspiration.

On behalf the NunatuKavut Community Council and our Governing Council, we thank Ms. Jones for her unwavering support for NunatuKavut Inuit and her tireless work in pushing for the recognition of our rights at all levels and across departments.

You have served our people and all the people of Labrador well. Nakummesuak – a great big thank you.

We wish you all the best on the next part of your journey, wherever it takes you.

And we hope to see you at our next Annual General Assembly in February so that we can show our appreciation in person.”
