HAPPY VALLEY–GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR, October 30, 2025 NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) President Todd Russell issued the following statement after yesterday’s provincial Cabinet appointment:

“On behalf of the NunatuKavut Community Council and our Governing Council, I offer congratulations to Premier Tony Wakeham on being sworn in as the Province’s 16th premier and on the appointment of his new Cabinet.

This marks an important moment in time for Newfoundland and Labrador. I recognize the trust placed in Premier Wakeham’s leadership to guide the province forward, with an agenda that is for all people, and fosters unity across regions.

I also particularly recognize the appointment of the Honourable Lela Evans in Cabinet. It is the first time that a Minister from Labrador has held the health portfolio, in addition to other portfolios like Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation and Labrador Affairs. They each hold great importance for our members and communities across our territory and the Province.

NCC is committed to working collaboratively with Premier Wakeham and all of his Ministers to advance shared priorities: improving access to health care, helping our families deal with affordability, safer communities and regional development. We look forward to building strong, respectful, and enduring relationships, one rooted in partnership, mutual respect, and the spirit of reconciliation.

Congratulations once again, Premier Wakeham. We wish you and your Cabinet great success as you begin this new chapter of leadership and service to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
