HAPPY VALLEY–GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR, October 15, 2025 – NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) President Todd Russell issued the following statement after yesterday’s provincial election outcome:
“On behalf of the NunatuKavut Community Council and our Governing Council, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Premier-designate Tony Wakeham and the Progressive Conservative Party on their majority win in the provincial election.
This new chapter for Newfoundland and Labrador brings with it both opportunity and responsibility. As the representative government of the Inuit of NunatuKavut, we look forward to building a renewed and respectful relationship with Premier Wakeham and his team, one rooted in trust, dialogue, and shared purpose.
We believe that by working together in the spirit of reconciliation, we can make meaningful progress on the priorities that matter most to our people and to all Labradorians, protecting our lands and waters, advancing health and well-being, and ensuring fair and equitable opportunities for our communities.
We also congratulate all elected Members of the House of Assembly, especially those representing Labrador. We look forward to working closely with you as strong voices for Labrador and for all peoples in your districts. Finally, we acknowledge and commend every individual who put their name forward in this election. Participating in the democratic process is an act of service and commitment to the people and places we call home.
NCC remains steadfast in our vision of being self-governing and in caring for one another, our families, and our communities while nurturing our deep relationship with the lands and waters of NunatuKavut. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive future for all.”
