The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is seeking a Communications Service Coordinator to join our team at any of our main office locations for a 12-week term. To be eligible, applicants must have been enrolled in school within the past year and be returning to their studies in the fall. Preference will be given to post-secondary students.

The successful candidate will support NCC’s Communications department in the development and delivery of clear, consistent, and culturally respectful communications across the organization. This includes assisting with the creation of press releases, social media posts, newsletters, website updates, and other materials that reflect NCC’s values and priorities.

NunatuKavut means “our ancient land” and refers to the territory of Inuit who reside primarily in south and central Labrador. NCC is a rights-based governing body that represents NunatuKavut Inuit. Roles and Responsibilities for Communications Service Coordinator

  • Assist in the development and distribution of communication materials, including press releases, newsletters, brochures, posters, and social media content.
  • Help maintain and update NCC’s website and social media platforms with timely and accurate information.
  • Support internal communication efforts to ensure consistent messaging across all departments and offices.
  • Promote community programs, events, and initiatives through various communication channels.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of media relations, including preparing media kits and liaising with journalists.
  • Monitor public and media engagement and provide regular updates and reports on communication metrics.
  • Maintain and update contact lists and distribution databases.
  • Assist in gathering community stories, photos, and videos to highlight and celebrate NCC’s work and its people.
  • Ensure all communications reflect NCC’s values, culture, and commitment to its members.
  • Provide general support to the Communications team and other departments as needed.

 Skills and qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear, engaging, and culturally respectful content.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, etc.) and basic knowledge of content creation and scheduling tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Spark) is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the NunatuKavut Community Council, its members, and Labrador Inuit culture and values.
  • Creative thinking and attention to detail.
