Then. Now. Forever.
We have always been here. And we remain.
A connection that has never been broken
For generations, our people have lived across the lands, ice and waters of South and Central Labrador. We are the Inuit of NunatuKavut.
Then
Long before provinces, borders or even the idea of Canada, NunatuKavut Inuit lived throughout South and Central Labrador. Our ancestors built their lives here, navigating the lands and waters, raising their families, and sharing in all it had to offer. Archaeology, oral history, and written records all point to the same truth: our connection to this place runs deep, and has endured across generations.
Now
Today, NunatuKavut Inuit remain a vibrant and organized people, thousands strong across our territory of NunatuKavut. Through the NunatuKavut Community Council, we govern in ways that are grounded by Inuit values and shaped by the priorities of our communities. We make laws, deliver programs, strengthen health, housing, education, and environmental stewardship. And we work to ensure our people are represented in the decisions that affect their lives. This includes the careful management of our resources, like cod, salmon and wildlife.
Our culture is not something left behind in history. It lives in our gatherings, our teachings, our language and our governance. Though colonial systems and outside forces tried to sever our people from our culture, our ways of knowing were never fully lost. They endured in the stories carried forward, in the knowledge of Elders, and in the care our communities continued to show one another. Today, NunatuKavut Inuit are not only preserving what remains—we are reclaiming, revitalizing, and carrying it forward.

Forever
The future of Labrador is being shaped now—through new investments in northern infrastructure, defence, energy, and development. NunatuKavut Inuit will be part of that future. Development, when done right, creates opportunity while respecting our people, our culture, and our places that have always been here. For us, the future is about growth. It is about continuity: protecting our culture, strengthening our communities, and ensuring our future generations inherit both opportunity and belonging.
As the world turns to cleaner energy and northern development, we are ready to share the power of our resources. Any decisions must include us from the start, honouring the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples principle of free, prior, and informed consent.

We Are Ready
The NunatuKavut Community Council is an elected, organized, and accountable Inuit government with the laws, programs, and partnerships needed to strengthen our peoples’ health, education, housing, and environment. We also work to increase our participation in the fishery based on fair allocation and conservation principles. Our laws are grounded in Inuit values, rights, and self-determination. With a mandate for stewardship and continuity, we’re ready to shape a future with our people at the negotiation table.
Our story is older than borders, and our connection to this place was never broken. The land remembers. The rivers remember. And so do we. We have always governed. We have always respected our lands and waters. And we have always cared for one another across generations. Today, that same responsibility guides how we plan, build, and protect together.
Our Vision is Forward
NunatuKavut Inuit are building strong, sustainable communities for generations to come. Our vision is rooted in continuity, carrying forward what matters most while creating new opportunities for our people to participate fully in the future of our homeland.
Through our business development work at Nunacor, we are creating pathways for investment, collaboration, and long-term benefits that strengthen our communities and support sustainable growth.
