The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is accepting applications for the position of Program Lead, located in NunatuKavut. The successful applicant will help identify opportunities to advance NCC priorities on MMIWG2S+ initiatives, will guide the design, development and implementation of relevant projects aimed at raising awareness and creating culturally responsive supports throughout the territory.  

NunatuKavut means “our ancient land” and refers to the territory of Inuit who reside primarily in south and central Labrador. NCC is a rights-based governing body that represents NunatuKavut Inuit. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to advance NCC’s priorities on the action plan for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ and the National Action Plan to end Gender-based Violence;
  • Guide project design and delivery of culturally responsive, trauma-informed health and wellness supports for individuals impacted by the issue of MMIWG2S+;
  • Coordinate cultural and land-based wellness opportunities throughout the territory;
  • Raise awareness on the issue of MMIWG2S+ and gender-based violence through the facilitation of presentations, workshops, large group discussions, and other means as needed;
  • Assist in developing an implementation plan of an action items identified as priorities for NCC related to MMIWG2S+ including setting objectives and timelines;
  • Engage with NCC’s Gender Based Violence Advisory Committee;
  • Lead in identifying funding opportunities and writing proposals; and
  • Other related duties, as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of the issue of MMIWG2S+, including an understanding of the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma on the safety of Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people.
  • Strong understanding of the impacts of gender-based violence on individuals, families, and communities.
  • Awareness of the various formal processes designed to address issues of MMIWG, including local initiatives, regional and national initiatives.
  • Experience connecting to and building and maintaining relationships with community organizations that provide support, and services to survivors of gender-based violence, families of MMIWG2S+ and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people.
  • Knowledge of NunatuKavut Inuit history, culture and way of life, and awareness of diverse health issues across the North.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be available to travel as needed.
  • Advanced writing skill including an ability to write funding proposals and complex reports.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience Requirements

Completion of post-secondary education in the Social Sciences/Services field or related discipline, such as gender-based violence, psychology, crisis intervention, individual/group counselling, community development or program delivery. A relevant combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preference may be given to qualified members of NunatuKavut Community Council.
