Nunatukavut

The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is the representative governing body for approximately 6,000 Inuit of South and Central Labrador.

Serving as the primary voice of our nation, we work to provide leadership and direction to the people of our communities, while guiding our path toward true self-determination, reconciliation, and renewal.

An affiliate of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples, NCC also holds special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT

The President of the NunatuKavut Community Council is chosen by our people through democratic election, and is entrusted with advancing the rights, priorities, and vision of our Inuit community at home and on the national and international stage.

As the primary and elected representative of NunatuKavut Inuit, the President presides over all official assemblies and provides leadership to NCC between meetings of the Governing Council, serving a term of four Annual General Assemblies.

GOVERNING COUNCIL

The NunatuKavut Governing Council is the leadership body elected by our membership to guide the direction and priorities of our organization. It includes a President, a youth representative, and
Councillors from each of the seven electoral areas across NunatuKavut.

Elders are appointed to Council to provide cultural and intergenerational wisdom. In addition, Council appoints a Vice-President and an Executive Member-at-Large. Together with the President, they form the Executive Committee.

Our current Council was elected on November 7, 2024, through a General Election process. Click here to read their biographies.

Our constitution guides the spirit and intent of all NCC laws and decisions, ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment with our vision for self-government. Developed through extensive community consultation and engagement with our Governing Council, this document marks a significant step toward self-determination.

ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The Annual General Assembly (AGA) is NCC’s most important gathering of the year. It brings together members from across NunatuKavut to review progress, discuss priorities, and make decisions that guide the mandate of our Governing Council for the year ahead. The AGA is a time for open dialogue, accountability, and connection – rooted in our Inuit values and traditions – ensuring that our direction reflects the voices and needs of our people.

Nunacor is the business development arm of NCC. It is wholly owned by NCC and is governed by a board of directors who are appointed by NCC and managed by a Chief Executive Officer. To learn more about Nunacor and its subsidiary companies, please visit www.nunacor.com
