Recently NCC teamed up with experienced komatik builder, Darin Dyson, to offer this traditional skill for NunatuKavut Inuit men and boys in the upper Lake Melville area. This workshop was a part of NCC’s Health and Community Services (HCS) Indigenous Land Based Wellness programming.
Below you will find photos of participants learning the process of komatik building and working together as a team to complete a traditional style komatik.
This komatik will be put up on tickets during the 2024 Annual General Assembly in February. The proceeds will be donated to NCC’s medical transportation program, which helps to alleviate some of the travel costs incurred to access specialized insured medical services.
